Yesterday was the rest day at the 11th Internet Chess Tournament "Ciudad de Dos Hermanas" (Spain). The twelve qualifiers finished with excellent participation and for the most part the best players qualified to the KO final stage, which will be held on the ICC Internet Chess Club servers today Friday and tomorrow Saturday from 3pm server time. The first stage of the KO will break down the 32 qualifiers to 8, who will return tomorrow to play for the first prize of 2.000 euros.
The best qualifier is American Grand Master Hikaru Nakamura, who has a 2735 rating, and is considered the fastest player on the planet. He currently occupies the 17th place on the World rating list. Another famous player who has qualified is American Grand Master Gata Kasmsky, boasting a 2702 international rating and 32nd on the rating list. Other contenders for first place who also stand in the 100 best players in the world are the Russian Grand Masters Dmitry Andreiken (2645) and Alexander Lastin (2643).
At the same time, several really good players were not able to qualify including Bulgarian Grand Master Kiril Georgiev (2669) and young German star Georg Meier (2663).
Dos Hermanas also organizes the 7th Internacional Chess Open “Ciudad de Dos Hermanas”, which will be held on the 10th and 11th of April, featuring a 1500 euro first prize.
